Mission Statement

Yilay is about bridging the cultural knowledge gap between corporate Australia and the broader Indigenous community. We use Indigenous artwork as an educational and engagement tool to help educate corporates and mainstream Australia on Indigenous values, beliefs, cultural practices and protocols. With every job, we produce stories from the artist, this enables us to showcase and respect the cultural knowledge and vision the artist is trying to portray.

As an Indigenous owned business, we utilise the knowledge passed down from our ancestors, to help communicate and engage with our clients and wider community. We do this by maintaining a professional standard whilst always valuing our cultural integrity and commitment to the Indigenous community. This is ingrained in our core values and is something we strive to abide by at all levels of the business.

Yilay focuses on seperating itself from its competitors by offering quality, comfortable, bespoke garments and products. Our step by step communication touch points through graphic design stages and production processes enable us to offer high end customer service. Our clients deal directly with our Managing Director on all aspects of their order, this is the Yilay difference.

Yilay's vision is a strong business with family and community values at the forefront. We believe a good business is one that is strongest when accompanied by a solid foundation around it. Yilay is an apparel, promotions and signage company that the whole community can rely on.

CURRENT - Torres Strait Islander flag - PMS blue 2.jpg

Yilay is honoured to acknowledge the designer of the Torres Strait Islander Flag, the late Mr Bernard Namok.

The flag symbolises the unity and identity of all Torres Strait Islanders.

The flag is emblazoned with a white Dhari (headdress) which is a symbol of Torres Strait Islanders. The white five pointed star beneath it symbolises peace, the five major island groups and the navigational importance of stars to the seafaring people of the Torres Strait.

The green stripes represent the land, the black stripes represent the people, and the blue the sea.
